I’m getting real tired of “Luke would seek to organize his new order like the old one, would seek to preserve the old order as much as possible” and other variations of it (sometimes in conjunction with “while Kanan and Ezra would make something new”). Because seriously do you even understand how he works?

You think Luke Skywalker, who chose to go after his friends instead of letting go of that attachment and valuing his possible future knowledge and result of a longer training and the greater good this might give to the galaxy above his friends, would do that?
Luke Skywalker, who has been LIED TO and MANIPULATED by two old order Jedi and KNOWS IT (and has forgiven, if not forgotten), by the end of RotJ?
Luke Skywalker, who went on a fool’s errand to redeem a man he had no reason to acknowledge as his father (but does anyway), who’s spent over twenty years being patently Awful, and bring him back to the Light?
Would as much knowledge from the old order as could be found be useful? Yes – in making something new. Because like heck would Luke Skywalker keep a lot of the crap the old order thought was Good or Just How Things Had to Be.
Concept: Some jackass shows Bucky how to make a blog and it becomes really popular. Not because it’s the blog of James Buchanan Barnes, American Legend, War Hero, Infamous Assassin, Alleged Terrorist. Nobody even knows it’s his blog. It gets really popular because people think it’s a really great shitpost generator or something. Because Bucky is just a Weird Fucking Person and everything he posts on his fucking personal blog comes off as somewhere between dril and Jaden Smith and people are like “this is some quality garbage right here” and thus Accidental Memelord Bucky is born.
Bucky posts things like
“What is wrong with bananas. I ate a banana today and it was Wrong. America why”
“Every time I put on my eye makeup it gets bigger. My whole face is eyeliner now.”
“Why does friendship feel so much like punching”
“When I wake up in the middle of the night I am either thinking ‘who am I? does my life have meaning?’ or “did I already eat all of the plums?’”

If you’re like me, you use the AO3 Work Search form all the time to help zero in on the fics you want to read. But this form has some weird quirks. Take the “warnings” section for example:
What do I do if I want to search for fics that don’t include Major Character Death? If I just check the MCD tag like so:
Then my search brings up all fics that DO contain MCD!
I can instead choose “No Archive Warnings Apply” of course, but that will also rule out “Violence”, “Non-Con”, and “Underage” and maybe I’m OK with those. All I want to do is to avoid MCD, that’s all.
I can try adding -“major character death” to the search terms, but doing so will also rule out any fics tagged with benign variations like “temporary major character death”.
What I want to do is specifically avoid fics which use the MCD archive warning. So how do I do that?
You need to make use of the specialized search parameter terms that AO3 actually sends to its servers when you use the work search form. For the archive warnings, these are as follows:
Chose not to use = warning_ids:14
None Apply = warning_ids:16
Violence = warning_ids:17
MCD = warning_ids:18
Rape = warning_ids:19
Underage = warning_ids:20
So, if I want to rule out MCD and only MCD, I search for “-warning_ids:18″ (the hyphen before the search term means “not”) by entering that into the “Any Field” search bar:
And voila! All fics except those with MCD warnings!
If you want to avoid violence or non-con or underage instead, simply change the warning_ids number to the one you want to rule out. You can also rule out more than one at a time, like so:
Combine this with your other favorite search terms and happily find the fics you want and avoid those you don’t 🙂
You can use variations on this trick to more accurately search for specific categories and ratings too. If people are interested, I’ll make a separate post about those.

Few things in fandom bother me more than reducing characters to a relationship they have with one other person. Making it that the only thing they could possibly care about is this other, that they have no other motivations or fears or ambitions save for their connection to them.
I usually see this about romantic relationships, but sometimes it’s not.
It’s possible to care about a relationship between two characters without subsuming them so that you have to break off their ties with everyone else in their world (so that suddenly other friends are erased and assumed to be unimportant) and with whatever other passions and hopes they’ve been shown to carry inside them.
