Fandom discourse has really depressed me today, so I still haven’t done the whole recap. What I have done is written up my thoughts on the last scene of 6.09, which I despised. The episode and the scene.
Guys, this letter was really poorly written and made very little sense. They really aren’t even trying to do the little things right anymore. Le sigh.
“I call upon the bonds of Family, Honor, Duty…” What even is this sentence? Clearly she’s referencing the Tully house words of “Family, Duty, Honor, but why did they change the order? It reminds of when people just change a sentence around when they are plagiarizing a paper?! Just why? If she’s trying to entice the Blackfish to join her by making him remember his own houses words, words that he is fighting for at Riverrun, why would they not be directly written in the correct order? They really do make the weirdest choices on every level in this show that have no cause or reason…this whole thing was written so poorly, but not as bad as that letter Jaime sent to Doran. This show is sinking on every level when even their props are not given the thought and care they once were…
Yeah, I don’t know what intern did this but they could literally look up all the house words and histories on the Westeros wiki. This is just pure laziness. And the handwriting is really bad. Sansa is the one Starkling who is the most polished in terms of courtesy, presentation, adhering to the expectations of being highborn, knowing heraldry and history- and this is the best they could do.
It should also be noted that the letter is to the Blackfish, Sansa’s great-uncle and yet she writes “… The Boltons, who murdered my brother and my mother – your sister … “
Um, no. Catelyn was not Brynden Tully’s sister. But I see that show apologists are already excusing that error by saying the letter was actually meant for Edmure, even though Sansa clearly tells Brienne to deliver the letter to the Blackfish. Yet another example of the carelessness running rampant behind the scenes and reflected in the show itself. They can’t even keep details straight when it comes to basic continuity. smdh
“It reminds of when people just change a sentence around when they are plagiarizing a paper?!”
That’s basically how the entire show feels tbh. It’s almost like they DON’T own the rights to the source materal???
And yeah, the honeypotting about whom the letter is for is bullshit because it was made clear that THE BLACKFISH had taken control of Riverrun from the start; Edmure was literally never brought up. But keep grasping at them straws, showpologists….
Would I sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist if I suggested they do it on purpose to make Sansa look bad? Most likely they just aren’t interested enough to think about what Sansa would say if she was trying to persuade allies to her side in a convincing way or in a way that makes sense, but the letter comes across as almost intentionally sloppy.
Yes I think it’s most likely they just don’t care enough about Sansa to put in the effort. But it certainly says a lot about their overall laziness that they didn’t even bother to proof/fix the letter before they published it for the world to see.
