Trying to draw buildings

image

yo here’s a useful tip from your fellow art ho cynellis… use google sketchup to create a model of the room/building/town you’re trying to draw… then take a screenshot & use it as a reference! It’s simple & fun!

Sketchup is incredibly helpful. I can’t recommend it enough.

There’s a 3D model warehouse where you can download all kinds of stuff so you don’t have to build everything from scratch.

shading colour tips

nocturnenebula:

bravestghost:

hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty

rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.

  • red– shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
  • orange– slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
  • yellow– i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
  • green– shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
  • blue– shade with purple
  • purple– a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
  • pink– darker shade of red
  • white– a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
  • black– okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
  • grey– a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
  • brown– slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red

aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!

If you’re a visual learner…

How to draw a proper longsword grip #drawing #draw #tips #sword #art

NOTE: the last one is perfectly ok to draw if the character in question has no goddamn clue what they’re doing

@petermorwood for a chuckle

The last one is a representation of how Hollywood villains hold a sword – almost any sword* – when they lose their cool in the final fight and start thrashing at the hero.

*Even rapiers and smallswords: it happens IIRC in the Antonio Banderas “Zorro”, the Tim Roth “Musketeer” and the Jim Caviezel “Monte Cristo”. One-handed swords with blades like knitting-needles being wielded like carpet-beaters.

Powerful Fish Portraits by Visarute Angkatavanich

Bangkok-based photographer Visarute Angkatavanich captures exquisite, surreal and elegant fish photographs of the multi-colored specifies. The intimate images feature a variety of breeds from goldfish to Siames fighting fish in a set of dramatic shots. Filmed against white or black backgrounds, Angkatavanich’s close-up portrait capture the personality, movement and the detail of the critters. They seem to be beautifully suspended in air, instead of water.

I wana say something real quick in regards to the “draw forever until you get better!” mentality that I see a lot.

Improvement isn’t just drawing a million times until you magically learn how to do everything. Drawing a ton is only a small PART of the process. You have to recognize and know what your weaknesses are then make a conscious effort to fix them. If you say, “wow, I’m really bad at hands!” then go off and draw 700 feet, you’re not going to get any better at hands. You have to do studies, focus on your weaknesses and most importantly USE REFERENCE AND LEARN HOW THINGS WORK.

I get asked a lot about how to get better at drawing muscles. So here’s my handy dandy guide:

Step 1) Get urself a beefy OC

Step 2) ACTUALLY SIT DOWN AND LEARN HOW MUSCLES WORK YA DINGUS. ((pro tip: medical anatomical diagrams are your friends))

Pro Pro Tip: Start a folder and save a shit-ton of reference and things that inspire you to it. I cannot stress enough how important this is.
