wolf gently howling, rain pouring, thunder crashing. This is so dang soothing….
This is entirely my aesthetic
So I live at the base of a mountain and we’ve always had a den of coyotes in the back of our neighborhood which is two streets behind my house. Well, a few weeks ago, we discovered that there is a wolf that has joined this pack of coyotes. How do we know? Every night around sundown, the coyotes get wound up and start howling (it’s pretty cool to hear bc you can even hear the pups). Well this day they went on for a while and all of the sudden we hear a louder, stronger howl that made every single one of them quiet down….. when I tell you it was the most hauntingly beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, I’m not lying.
☆ Happy lunar dog year! here are some mythological best friends to kick it off in cuteness! ☆

Happy Chinese New Year!
This year is the Year of the Dog 🐶, the eleventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac
This dog is scratching his ear on a 2,500 year old Athenian red-figure cup by the Euergides Painter.
According to the Chinese Zodiac, those born in the Year of the Dog are loyal, honest and just, similar to our canine companions.
One myth claims that the Jade Emperor, or the first god, decided to order the animals of the Zodiac based on the order in which they arrived to a celebration he was hosting. On this occasion, the Monkey, the Rooster and the Dog were in another country helping another god to defeat evil spirits. They arrived late to the party and all at once, so the Jade Emperor went by the order in which they met the aforementioned god in the other country, making the Dog the eleventh guest.

“My transformations in those days were — were terrible. It is very painful to turn into a werewolf. I was separated from humans to bite, so I bit and scratched myself instead. The villagers heard the noise and the screaming and thought they were hearing particularly violent spirits.” | Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Intrigued, James followed Remus when he was trying to hide from everyone and found himself comforting his friend because it was too wrong for him to stay alone during such terrible moments of pain and fear.
So he had an idea.

Of course, the real way to tell whether you’re in a Hard SF novel is if people keep providing you with unsolicited explanations of basic physics and everyday technology which you should, by rights, already know.
So every single woman is in a Hard SF novel is what you’re telling me
…You know, it’s occurred to me that this would actually be a very good way to do exposition in hard SF novels without needing anyone to break character.
#‘but of course teleportation technology based on quantum displacement is common now–’#‘I KNOW’#’–ever since they replaced the old SK-400s with the newly-discovered Mega Dilithium cores–“#‘I FUCKING KNOW THIS ALREADY MARK’
😀 😀 😀 ur contributions are super great even when they’re just replies and stuff 🙂
THANK YOU!!! (and I always love talking to you :))
I haven’t been very involved in Silm fandom recently, and didn’t contribute to the, uh, let’s call it recent developments… But I feel like there’s a part of my brain that makes sure I’m constantly aware of what’s going on and that I know all this… stuff that makes me really happy no one could actually read every thought I’ve ever had.
Does a pregnant centaur carry her child in her human torso or horse torso?
Horse, for several important reasons but the two most notable:
1) that’s where the plumbing is and the birth canal for mammals can really only be so long in comparison to the size of the baby and mother or you increase the risk of death to them both during the birthing process
2) the mother’s body cavity and pelvis need to support the gestation and birthing of a child that is at least as large as a foal, which is absolutely unattainable for a purely human womb/pelvis
Incorrect. It’s actually both.
The human half grows in the human torso, then moves down to meet and merge with the horse half growing in the horse torso shortly before birth
Thanks, that’s horrifying.
