Ask me a Tolkien character to turn up unexpectedly on my doorstop and I’ll tell you if I’d be :

1) delighted and invite them in for supper

2) socially awkward and unable to tell them not to invite themselves for supper

3) fleeing through the back door to the nearest neighbour to demand they send up the Horncall of Buckland and raise the Shire. 

And why.  If 1 or 2, I will also tell you what I would provide for supper.
